North Korea Ratifies Strategic Treaty with Russia

North Korea (DPRK) ratified the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty with Russia, according to a report today, Tuesday, from the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). The head of state of the DPRK, Kim Jong-Un, signed the decree on Monday, and the treaty will enter into force when both parties exchange the instruments of ratification.

Last June, Kim Jong-Un and Vladimir Putin signed the treaty after holding a summit in Pyongyang, the North Korean capital. This consolidates the alliance between North Korea and Russia, which has strengthened since the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022.

It is estimated that North Korea has approximately 11,000 soldiers in Kursk to provide support to Russia in its conflict with Ukraine, according to information provided by the Ukrainian government to the international community since early October. This North Korean military presence in Russia underscores the deepening ties between the two countries amid the crisis.
